Strides into the future

by Veruna Padayachee

My youth, your youth, our youth.
Not like our past that took the front foot.
Lost souls of impeccable quality, broken by the walls of a toxic community.
Our home changed as the needles of time struck past the years.
Better circumstances…same old mentality standing unchanged at the face of our fears.
The world works to its own preferences.
We burned because of our differences.
We stood still and bathed in paraffin, set alight by the kings of corruption.
We let each other burn, too afraid to start a moral revolution.
Our past stood firm, our future I cannot confirm.
The evil is indulgent, too many fruits to sugarcoat its sensations.
In this age we stand as monsters, we also stand as each other’s saviours.
